Spiders Down Tribe

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Senior Katelin Peterson and sophomore Chelsea Davies scored goals as Richmond defeated William & Mary 2-1 Sunday.
The Spiders (6-5) out-shot the Tribe 19-9, including 13-3 in the opening period.
Peterson gave the Spiders a 1-0 lead with 3.26 remaining in the first half when she deflected a high shot by junior Natalie Gallo into the back of the cage.
It was Peterson's fifth goal of the season and 36th of her career, which ties her with Sarah Blythe-Wood for sixth on the school's all-time career list for goals. Peterson has 92 career points, which moves her into fifth on the school's all-time career list, one point ahead of Blythe-Wood.
Peterson needs two points to pass Amy Ottavinnia for fourth on the school's all-time career list for points.
Davies made it 2-0 in the 49th minute when she dribbled around the keeper on the right side of the cage.
William & Mary scored to cut the gap to 2-1 with 14:35 remaining, but the Spiders were able to hold the Tribe off.
Richmond sophomore goalkeeper Anna Zarkoski made three saves.
Richmond opens conference play on Friday hosting Saint Louis at 3:30 p.m.
