Richmond secured its fifth win in six games with a 1-0 win over rival GW Saturday in Washington, D.C.
"Today we had a great win against a very good GW team," said head coach Peter Albright. "It was a very physical game and I was really proud of the way we played. Melissa Alvarez-Freeman was great at central defense and Emily Dale had a great game. Natalie LeClair put one through off a corner kick and had a terrific game. Andrea Young played well in goal and we are looking forward to returning to campus for our last two regular season home games of the season."
Natalie LeClair scored the game-winner off a Liza Koch pass from a corner kick in the game's 65th minute. The assist was Koch's team-leading eighth of the year and she ranks 23rd nationally in assists this season.
The Spiders improve to 11-4-3 overall and 5-1-1 in league play. Richmond is second in the A-10 standings. Richmond's 11 wins are the program's most since 2003. The Colonials fell to 5-10-2, 2-3-2 on the year.
Richmond outshot the Colonials 16-11 as Emily Dale led the Spiders with four shots. Melissa Pacheco and Andrea Young split time between the pipes, as Pacheco recorded two saves in 18 minutes of play, while Young recorded a game-best six keeps in 72 minutes.
Richmond wraps up its regular-season slate with Rhode Island Friday at 7 p.m. and UMass Sunday at 1 p.m. Seven seniors will be honored before the start of the Rhode Island game Friday as part of senior night.
