
Spiders Win A-10 Regular Season Title On Senior Day

Richmond finished the regular season 13-6 overall and 5-1 in the Atlantic 10, winning the A-10 Regular Season Championship for the second time in the last three years.
The Spiders are playing are the top seed in next weekend's Atlantic 10 Tournament at Saint Joseph's and will have a rematch with La Salle (8-10, 3-3 Atlantic 10). Temple and Massachusetts will play in the other semifinal.
The Spiders will be playing in the A-10 Tournament for the 11th time in as many seasons in the league, having reached the title game in seven of those appearances. Richmond has won the tournament championship each of the previous six times they won the Regular Season Championship.
Peterson scored three goals to give her 14 on the season. She ranks fourth on Richmond's career list for points (116), goals (45) and assists (26).
This was the third hat trick recorded by a Spider this season. Chelsea Davies and Rebecca Barry each had hat tricks in Richmond's win over Pacific.
Peterson put the Spiders up 1-0 15:18 into the match when she took a feed from Catherine Ostoich and found the right side of the cage.
La Salle tied the game at 1-1 when Mariel Papa scored 26:54 into the match, but the Spiders needed just six seconds to regain the lead. Peterson took a pass from freshman Rebecca Barry and found the back of the cage for the second time.
Peterson then assisted on a goal by sophomore Christina Amorose. In the 42nd minute Peterson added an unassisted goal in the 44th minute.
Peterson and fellow seniors Sierra Asplundh, Betsy Herr and Emily Straniero were honored in a pregame ceremony and ended the day with their second Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship.
