PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Atlantic 10 Regular Season Champion Richmond defeated fourth-seeded La Salle 4-0 Friday to advance to its eighth A-10 title game in 11 seasons in the league.
The Spiders (14-6) will play Saturday at 2 p.m. against the winner of today's second semifinal, No. 3 seed Temple.
Sophomore Chelsea Davies scored two goals, freshman Rebecca Barry scored one and senior defender Emily Straniero netted her first career goal.
All four of Richmond's goals came in the second half, although the Spiders kept play in La Salle's end of the field throughout the day.
"It's a brand new season for everyone and everyone wants to get to that final game," said Richmond head coach Gina Lucido. "We saw a great effort from La Salle and had to have faith that if we kept attacking the goals would come."
The Spiders out-shot La Salle 18-1 on the game and outscored them 8-1 in two games this week. Richmond had defeated the Explorers 4-1 on Sunday to clinch the Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship.
Richmond junior Natalie Gallo assisted on Davies' second goal of the game, while junior Catherine Ostoich and sophomore Christina Amorose assisted on Straniero's goal.
Richmond sophomore goalkeeper Anna Zarkoski made one save to get the shutout.
