Bilney Unleashes On Terriers, Spiders Win Third Straight

Rachael Bilney scored a career-high 19 points and eight straight in a pivotal span to lift the Spiders (3-0) over Boston University, 72-60, Friday night.
Bilney jumpstarted her scoring spree with a three to give Richmond back its lead at 55-54 with 7:28 mark. Twenty seconds later, Bilney drilled another long-range shot, courtesy of a Becca Wann pass. After a Genevieve Okoro steal, Bilney drove into the lane to complete 8-0 run and give the Spiders the lead for good at 60-54 with 6:29 left.
Bilney, who has scored in double-figures in each of the Spiders' wins, poured in a career-best 19 points, going 7-for-14 from the field and hit a career-best five shots from behind the arc.
Liz Brown was automatic in the post, with 15 tallies and a perfect 7-for-7 mark from the field. Brown also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Okoro posted 14 points, seven rebounds and went a season-best 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Ryann Dannelly tied a career-high with nine points and Wann dished a career-best and team-high eight assists.
The Spiders led for much of the first frame and went into the break with a 35-28 lead. Richmond has never trailed at halftime this season.
The Terriers pieced together a 13-5 run to take their first lead of the second half at 43-42 with 14:04 remaining. From there, both teams traded baskets and neither team led by two possessions. Boston U took its largest lead at 54-50 with 8:31 remaining but could not push its advantage any further after Bilney sparked the Spiders.
Richmond dished 22 assists, committed a season-low nine turnovers and grabbed nine steals.
Abby Oliver scored four points, only five tallies shy of becoming the 18th member to join the 1,000 point club in program history. Oliver handed out a career-best six assists. Richmond went a season-high 12-for-14 from the charity stripe.
Richmond improved to 3-0, its best start since the 2008-09 season.
The Spiders travel to Old Dominion Sunday for a 5 p.m. contest.
