Taylor's Take: Our Season, My Story
11/04/2011 | Cross Country
Editor's Note: Cross country freshman and Richmond native Taylor Clevinger will share her thoughts and experiences in an ongoing blog that offers readers an inside look into life as a Spider on the course, in the classroom and around campus. Below is her seventh entry of the year.
Hi again! I hope everyone is trying to stay warm in this cold weather. It feels like it is getting colder and colder every morning when we are walking to practice at 7:30 a.m. Even though it is getting cold out, practice is always a great start to the day because a good workout always kick-starts your morning. I get excited for practice because it is the only time of the day when the entire team is together, and we can encourage one another. We have a great team dynamic, and my teammates always put me in a good mood no matter what.
I believe that this strong team dynamic definitely led to our success at this past weekend's A-10 Championships in Charlotte, N.C. I did not travel with the team for the race because I was still recovering from an injury, so on the morning of the race we cheered for the team from campus. I was with some of my teammates who also didn't make the trip in the Dining Hall, and we had our laptops up following Coach Taylor's tweets.
The men raced first, and they had some great performances with Andrew Valenski leading the team. Then the women raced, and according to Coach Taylor's tweets, Jill Prentice was racing with the lead pack throughout the whole race. We were pulling for her and the team all the way. All of a sudden the tweet said that Jill was 400 meters from the finish line, in the lead and getting ready to win the A-10 Championship... Then SHE WON!!!
Everyone in the Dining Hall was so excited. We celebrated her win and the teams overall finish. Everyone did awesome last weekend. The women's team placed fourth and the men finished seventh out of a very competitive field. There were many gutsy and outstanding performances, and I know they will also do well at the NCAA Regional Championships in Louisville, Ky., on Nov. 12.
Halloween was this past weekend as well, and I would say that it was very spooky around campus. The Dining Hall was all decorated with scary decorations, and there were Halloween treats like orange cookies and cupcakes with little pumpkin decorations on them.
And you cannot let Halloween go by without trick-or-treating! So, Stephanie Paradis, Clare Moretz, Alli Stapleton, Emily Graber and I went trick-or-treating around campus and at a couple of houses. We had a blast dressing up in our costumes and collecting a lot of candy along the way.
I hope you all have a great weekend. I look forward to talking to you soon! GOOOO SPIDERS!!!
