LEWISBURG, Pa. - Following a flurry of lead changes to open the second half, Richmond saw its four-point halftime advantage fade away as Bucknell would eventually grab the lead for good midway through the frame to hand the Spiders a 79-65 setback on Saturday at Sojka Pavilion.
Junior Darien Brothers went 7-of-15 from the field and an impressive 4-of-6 from behind the arc to lead Richmond with 18 points. He also equaled a season-high by handing out three assists on the night.
Sophomore Derrick Williams added 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting while pacing the Spiders and establishing a career-high with a pair of steals. With his 11 points against the Bison, freshman Kendall Anthony has now scored in double figures in all but one game this season. Sophomore Cedrick Lindsay hauled in six rebounds to lead Richmond on the glass.
Richmond (6-5) went 22-of-57 (38.6%) from the floor, including 9-of-25 (36.0%) shooting from long range. The Spiders, who had another solid night from the stripe in going 12-for-15 (80.0%), committed only seven turnovers while forcing the Bison into 17.
Bucknell (7-4) compensated for its copious turnovers and just three steals with a strong offensive showing, earning the win on the heels of 26-of-44 (59.1%) shooting and a perfect 21-of-21 performance from the line.
Sophomore Cameron Ayers led the Bison with a game-high 23 points, while junior Mike Muscala turned in a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Bryson Johnson scored 18 points and classmate Joe Willman tallied 10 to join them in double figures.
The Spiders return to the Robins Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m. when they face in-state rival Old Dominion. The game is the second contest in a doubleheader that also features the women's basketball team, which welcomes Liberty to the Robins Center at 4 p.m.
