RichmondSpiders.com continues its 10 for 10 feature with a tie for No. 9 highlighting the field hockey and women's tennis dominant tenure in the Atlantic 10.
The Richmond field hockey team has been dominant since entering the league in 2001, winning five straight titles, including five consecutive NCAA appearances. The Spiders have captured six titles in the span of eight seasons. During that impressive reign, Richmond earned a stellar 10 A-10 Player of the Year awards, three Coach of the Year honors and boasted five All-Americans. Richmond was also nationally ranked six seasons.
Not to be outdone, the Richmond tennis program is fresh off its third-straight A-10 Championship and has a conference-record eight A-10 titles in the past nine years. Head coach Mark Wesselink garnered his league-leading sixth Coach of the Year award after guiding Richmond to its 10th NCAA appearance, including seventh in the last eight years.
"The support of our athletic department combined with the beauty and academic excellence at Richmond have made it possible to attract some of the top players in the country," said Wesselink. "It has been a privilege to work with such interesting and dedicated athletes. Their accomplishments were made possible by their drive to succeed, willingness to work as a team, and an abundance of loving family support."
