
Spiders Give No. 1 ODU Battle

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond played No. 1 ranked Old Dominion to a scoreless first half, before the Monarchs scored two goals off penalty corners in the second session for a 2-0 win Friday at Crenshaw Field.
Old Dominion had scored 29 of its 38 goals coming into Friday in open play and Richmond was able to hold the top-ranked Monarchs scoreless in open play.
Both of Old Dominion's goals came in the second half. Rebecca Condie scored off an assist from Lydia Velzian in the 37th minute on a broken play off of a penalty corner. Christy Longacre assisted on a goal by Danielle Clutter in the 53rd minute to put the Monarchs' up 2-0.
Richmond keeper Anna Zarkoski, who leads the nation in save percentage, made nine saves in the cage for the Spiders (5-5).
Of Richmond's five losses, four are by one goal and all five are by two goals or less.
The Spiders play at William & Mary on Sunday at 1 p.m.
