UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Abby Oliver scored a game-high 23 points on her senior day as Richmond beat Fordham, 63-50, Sunday afternoon.
Oliver, the lone senior on the A-10's youngest team, tallied 23 points, off 8-for-13 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds. Oliver has now launched 18 20-point or better games, 10 this season. The nation's best free-throw shooter went a pristine 6-for-6 from the line.
Genevieve Okoro recorded a stellar game behind 13 points and 14 rebounds, registering her ninth career double-double, eighth this season. Rachael Bilney was equally impressive with 12 points, getting most of her tallies with crafty moves in the lane.
The Spiders held a 32-24 advantage at the break, buoyed by a critical 8-0 run to close the half that jumpstarted Richmond's momentum. The Spiders never trailed after that run.
Richmond improved to 21-6, 8-4 overall, while Fordham fell to 11-6, 2-10. Richmond's 21-6 mark is the team's best since 2004-05, the last year the program went to the NCAA Tournament. Only seven teams in program history have recorded more wins than the 2011-12 Spiders.
Richmond won its 10th in a row against Fordham and improved to 6-0 at the Robins Center versus the Rams.
Former Richmond head coach Stephanie Gaitley returned to the Robins Center at the helm of Fordham. Gaitley coached Richmond from 1985-1991, compiling 116 wins and guiding the Spiders to two CAA Championships and back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
Richmond has posted 20 wins or more in three of the last four seasons and seeks its fourth-straight postseason appearance.
The Spiders return to action Wednesday night against Duquesne at the Robins Center in the last regular season home game. Tip is slated for 7 p.m.
