Kobelja Continues Olympic Trials Week In 200 IM

OMAHA - After teammate Lauren Hines opened this week's U.S. Olympic Trials for the Spiders, rising junior Mali Kobelja continued Richmond's run in Omaha in Wednesday's prelims of the 200 IM.
"I think Mali was calm considering the stage," said head coach Matt Barany. "We wanted to go faster, but unfortunately she won't get another shot. It will be important for Mali to take the lessons from this week into the next phase of her Richmond career."
In her lone event of this week's meet, Kobelja (Fort Wayne, Ind./R. Nelson Snider) clocked a time of 2:21.80 to finish 95th overall in the morning's prelims of the 200 IM.
The Spiders will continue their stay in Omaha through at least Saturday when Hines (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley) returns to the pool for the prelims of the 200 back. The 2012 All-American finished 41st overall in the 100 portion of the event on Tuesday.
The top 16 finishers from each event's preliminary round qualify to compete in that evening's semifinal. The top eight competitors from the semifinal round then qualify to race in the next evening's finals. The top two swimmers from each final will represent the United States on its Olympic team.
