Cross Country Heads To Paul Short Invitational

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond men's and women's cross country teams will head north to Pennsylvania on Saturday for the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
SATURDAY'S MEET DETAILS
The first of eight collegiate races at the Paul Short Invitational will get started at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Races will be staggered and broken into the four different men's and women's categories of Open Race, Gold Race, Brown Race and White Race. The men will kick off competition for Richmond by participating in the Men's 8k Gold Race at 11:00 a.m. followed by the women in the Women's 6k Gold Race at 11:45 a.m. The awards ceremony of the Gold Race's will be held inside the football stadium at 12:45 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Richmond cross country dominated the William & Mary Invitational Saturday morning as the women won the event and the men took second. Redshirt senior Jason Skipper and sophomore Tara Hanley swept the competition, winning the event for the men and women, respectively.
The Richmond women had four Spiders in the top 10, including Hanley. The sophomore ran a time of 17:56.4 to win the event for her first collegiate victory. Freshman Marisa Ruskan (18:07.8) and Clare Moretz (18:32.4) followed in third and fourth, respectively, while Taylor Clevinger finished ninth with a time of 19:12.5.
Emma Nowak, Alyson McGonigle and Molly Parsons finished together, rounding out the top 14. Nowak took 11th, Parsons finished 13th and McGonigle finished 14th for the Spiders.
Maddie Wittich, Tenley Godfrey and Roxanne Henningson rounded out the pack for Richmond as all three placed in the top 21.
As a team, Richmond tallied 21 points, 24 less then the second-place finisher, William & Mary. Hampton finished third with 82 points overall, while VCU took fourth with 96 points.
In addition to Skipper's first-place performance (15:29.9), the Spider men collected two top-five finishers. Mathew McKenna fourth with a time of 15:49.1, while Adam Owens followed in fifth place at the 15:57.4 mark.
Matthew Groff rounded out the top 15 with a time of 16:24.8, while Paul Myer took 20th coming in at the 16:38.0 mark. Justin Keefe and Andrew Brennan also competed for the Spiders.
The Tribe won the race on the men's side with a total of 36 points, while VCU took third with 45 points, three points behind Richmond.
RICHMOND IN REGIONAL RANKINGS
Both Spider cross country squads were given nods in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional rankings released on Monday. Richmond is seeded 12th in the men's Southeast Region rankings, while the women's team is ranked 11th.
