
Field Hockey Set For William & Mary And VCU

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond field hockey team will be back in action this week when it travels to William & Mary Thursday at 5:30 p.m., before hosting cross-town rival VCU for both team's conference opener Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.
The Spiders are coming off a convincing 8-1 win over the Appalachian State Mountaineers this past Sunday at Crenshaw Field. Richmond dominated the contest as it had seven Spiders find the back of the cage, while Rebecca Barry and Chelsea Davies led the offense with five points each.
Barry led both teams with seven shots, a goal and three assists that tied the school record in most assists in a game. Davies notched two goals and an assist to register her season-high five points.
On Thursday, Richmond will travel down the road to Williamsburg, Va., to take on the Tribe, who are 6-5 on the season. William & Mary is led by Pippin Saunders with five goals and six assists, good for 16 points. Cate Johnson and Meredith Savage have split time in goal. Johnson is 4-2 on the season with a 2.64 goals against average, while Savage is 1-4 with 19 saves.
The Spiders will conclude the weekend at home when they kick off Atlantic 10 play with hosting VCU. The Rams are 6-6 on the season and are coming off an 8-1 win over the Mountaineers as well. Emilie Soares leads the team with an impressive 10 goals and five assists, good for 25 points. Megan Botteri will be in goal as she holds a record of 5-5 and has 73 saves.
