
Field Hockey Looks To Bring Home A-10 Title

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond field hockey team looks to bring home its eighth Atlantic 10 title as the semifinals start Friday, Nov. 8 when the Spiders face off with the Lock Haven Bald Eagles at 11 a.m. in Amherst, Mass.
Richmond heads into the tournament with a No. 2 seed as they boast a regular season record of 6-1. The Spiders' lone conference loss came to the host UMass in a match that resulted in a shootout on Oct. 25.
The Spiders have outscored its A-10 opponents, 29-6, this season and leads the conference in four categories. Senior goalkeeper Anna Zarkoski leads the league in goals against average and save percentage, as well as, being ranked second in the nation on both lists.
The two teams have met once this season as Richmond downed the Bald Eagles, 2-1, on Oct. 27. The Spiders dominated play from the start as they outshot Lock Haven 17-3 and took the 7-2 corner advantage. Senior Chelsea Davies and sophomore Taylor Deitrick recorded goals for Richmond.
The Spiders enter the tournament strong, as they have claimed seven championships in the last 11 years. Richmond's last conference crown came in 2011.
After the Spiders and Bald Eagles face off Friday, the No. 1-seed Massachusetts will take on No. 4-seed VCU at 2 p.m. The winners of Friday's matches will advance to the Championship Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.
