Wo Men's Basketball Downs UNC Wilmington, 64-49

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Redshirt junior Genevieve Okoro's season-high 18 points led the Richmond women's basketball team over the UNC Wilmington Seahawks, 64-49, Saturday afternoon at the Robins Center.
Richmond (4-5) shot 49 percent from the field, while holding UNCW (1-8) to just 30.4 percent. The Spiders forced 18 Seahawk turnovers thanks to 10 steals for the fifth time with double-figure steals this season.
In addition to her season-high, Okoro led the team with six rebounds. Freshman Janelle Hubbard followed with 10 points, while senior Kristina King added eight points and three steals.
The Spiders came out strong as they scored the first seven points of the game, while holding UNCW to its first basket at the 13:13 mark of the first half. Richmond held on to the seven-point lead going into the break, 31-24.
Richmond shot an impressive 56.5 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes. Hubbard led the way with eight points, while Okoro added seven points and four rebounds.
The Spiders continued with the momentum in the second half, as they controlled the entire 20 minutes. Richmond led by as many as 16 points, which came at the 15:33 mark, and held the Seahawks to just 25 points in the second half.
UNCW's 49 points marks the first time since Feb. 23, 2013 that the Spiders allowed less than 50 points.
The Spiders will enjoy a week break before returning to the Robins Center Saturday, Dec. 14 to take on Charleston at 3 p.m.
