Richmond Clipped At William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Richmond scored the game's last four goals but was edged at William & Mary, 12-11, Saturday in Williamsburg.
Both teams had six goals at the break, led by Bailey Zerr's hat trick. The Tribe (3-6) came out of the half scoring three quick goals to take a 9-6 lead with 21 minutes remaining. Richmond (3-7) would counter with a Caitlin Fifield free position to cut the lead to 9-7.
William & Mary responded with three-straight scores to boost its lead to 12-7 with just under 10 minutes to play. Richmond would rally, scoring the game's last four goals but it would not be enough.
Richmond was led by Zerr's three goals, while Sam Stevenson and Emily Doyle accounted for two scores apiece. Four other Spiders added a goal. Jennifer Zoltoski picked up a team-high four ground balls, while Taylor Blazer and Doyle both had two caused turnovers.
William & Mary was led by Ellen Shaffery's four goals.
The Spiders travel to the nation's capital for their conference opener against GW Friday, Mar. 29 at 4 p.m.
