The No. 5-ranked Cavaliers were the first to get on the scoreboard on a beautiful evening at Davenport Field in Charlottesville. Virginia plated a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the first, taking a 2-0 lead.
After a scoreless second inning, the Spiders scored their first runs of the game in the top of the third. Reaching on an infield single, Poulos then stole second base and moved to third on a wild pitch. Small then plated his classmate with a single through the left side, cutting the lead to 2-1.

Virginia answered right back, scoring one run in the bottom of the third and three more in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead over the Spiders. Richmond had a chance to cut in to the deficit in the fifth, loading the bases with two outs, but a foul out ended the potential Spider rally.
Richmond had opportunities to cut in to the Cavalier lead, but stranded runners in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. In the ninth, Stanley started the frame with a leadoff single, but the Spiders were unable to stage a dramatic comeback, falling to the No. 5-ranked Cavaliers, 6-2.
