Rocco Impressive in League Openers
Richmond head coach Danny Rocco has tallied a terrific record in conference openers during his career, posting a mark of 6-1. Last season, Rocco led the Spiders to a 35-14 CAA conference win at Georgia State.
Richmond Interception Streak at 14 Games
With DB Wayne Pettus' interception last week against Liberty, Richmond has recorded at least one pick in 14-straight games. Over that stretch, the Spiders have intercepted a total of 31 passes. Richmond led the FCS in interceptions last season with 24.
Spiders Strong in CAA Conference Openers
Dating back to the 2006 season, the Richmond Spiders are 5-2 in their CAA conference openers, including a 35-14 win at Georgia State last season. The only losses in that stretch came in 2010 (at No. 7 Delaware) and in 2011 (vs. No. 11 New Hampshire).
Pettus Named CAA Special Teams Player of the Week
Senior DB Wayne Pettus had a tremendous game for the Spiders in their win over Liberty on September 21, earning CAA Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Pettus blocked a pair of field goal attempts, while also tallying an interception. The senior also tallied four tackles and a pair of pass breakups in Richmond's victory over the Flames.
Edwards Moves Up In Record Book
With his nine receptions last week in the win over Liberty, WR Ben Edwards moved in to sixth place all-time on the school's career reception list with 155. Edwards is only 53 yards short of entering the school's top-10 list in career receiving yardage at 1,723.
