BRONX, N.Y. - Junior Kendall Anthony's three-pointer with 13 seconds was the difference as Richmond defeated Fordham 77-74 Saturday at Rose Hill Gym.
Anthony, who scored 13 points, broke a 72-72 tie with a three from the right corner and Harlem native Derrick Williams made two free throws to ice the win as the Spiders improved to 11-6 overall and 1-1 in the Atlantic 10.
“I think road wins are going to be tough to come by in the conference,” Richmond head coach Chris Mooney said. “We didn't get off to a great start, but we really hung in there. We got contributions from a lot of players and hung on in overtime to win the game.”
Senior Cedrick Lindsay led the Spiders with 19 points, including a clutch three-pointer with Richmond down by five in overtime. Sophomore Terry Allen scored 18 points, one short of his career high, and grabbed seven rebounds. He was 8-of-11 from the field.
“I thought Terry was great, he was kind of in search of a breakout game a little bit and today he was really good,” Mooney said. “He was a lot to handle for them and he was able to score inside in a variety of ways.”
Williams scored 10 points, had a block and a steal as he helped the Spiders win for the seventh-straight time over Fordham, including Richmond's fourth-straight win at Rose Hill Gym.
Freshman ShawnDre' Jones made three second-half three-pointers to finish with nine points and Alonzo Nelson-Ododa had six points and eight rebounds.
The Spider defense held the Atlantic 10's leading scorer Jon Severe to just 4-of-22 shooting. Fordham (7-8, 0-2 Atlantic 10) shot 33.8 percent for the game.
The Spiders have a week off before hosting Dayton in the Grand Re-Opening of the Robins Center next Saturday on ESPNU at 3 p.m.
