
Spiders Come From Behind At W&M To Clinch 4th-Straight Win

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Richmond women's basketball team won its fourth straight – third on the road – in a come-from-behind, 59-56, win at William & Mary Sunday afternoon at Kaplan Arena.
Richmond (7-4) found itself down by as many as 14 with 16:30 left to play (39-25) and held William & Mary (6-5) to just 17 points for the remainder of the game to hold on for the victory.
The Spiders forced 23 turnovers on 11 steals that turned into 25 points and held the Tribe to just 27.6 percent from the field. Sophomore Olivia Healy led Richmond with 13 points and four assists, while redshirt-senior Genevieve Okoro brought down 10 rebounds in 20 minutes of play. Senior Liz Brown also tallied double figures with 10 points.
Junior Bria Powell came up with a career-high four steals, while five Spiders recorded a block each.
Richmond struggled in the first 20 minutes of play as they shot just 27 percent from the field. It was a physical first half as both teams went to the free throw line 13 times and the Tribe went for a perfect 13-for-13, while Richmond hit eight.
The two teams went into halftime with William & Mary leading 37-25. Okoro tallied five rebounds in the first 20 minutes of play.
In the second half, the Spiders turned it up defensively and held the Tribe to just 17 percent from the floor with just one three pointer the entire period. The Spiders outscored William & Mary 34-19 and took their first lead at the 3:02 mark.
The Spiders have a quick turnaround as they head to UAB Tuesday, Dec. 30 for an 8 p.m. tip.
