Spider XC Runs At USATF National Championships

BOULDER, Co.- Six members of the Richmond cross country team ran in the USATF National Cross Country Championships Saturday, highlighted by freshman Marisa Ruskan's 12th-place (23:38) finish in the Junior Women's 6k.
Also running in the Junior Women's 6k were freshmen Maddie Wittich and Emma Nowak. Wittich crossed the finish line in 23rd-place (24:36), while Nowak finished 38th (24:45).
On the men's side, seniors Ryan Lee and Adam Owens ran in the Senior Men's 12k. Lee took 54th-place (40:28) for the second consecutive year and Owens finished 80th (43:10).
Freshman Andrew Brennan finished the day for the Spiders by taking 41st-place (28:17) in the Junior Men's 8k.
Another bright spot for the Spiders was Amy Van Alstine, an alum of the University of Richmond and former outdoor track & field 5k All-American. Alstine won the U.S. Women's Open 8k (27:35) National Championship, edging favorite and two-time Olympian Jennifer Simpson.
