
Jones' Career Night Not Enough For Spiders Against GW

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Despite a career-high 25 points from freshman ShawnDre' Jones, the Richmond Spiders lost to the George Washington Colonials, 73-65, at the Robins Center.
The Spiders were leading 29-28 at the half and led by four with 15:13 to play. The game went back-and-forth until the Colonials opened up a four-point lead with 3:11 to play.
A three-pointer by Jones cut the gap to 64-63 with 2:55 to play, but Maurice Creek answered with a runner on the next possession and the Spiders would get no closer.
Jones made 10-of-14 field goals and 5-of-8 three-pointers as he almost doubled his previous career high of 14 from Saturday's win over Fordham.
The Houston, Texas native has scored in double-figures in four-straight games and is averaging 16/.3 points per game in that stretch. He is matched or set a career high in each of the last four games.
Richmond sophomore Terry Allen scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while junior Kendall Anthony had 14 points. Sophomore Trey Davis scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Maurice Creek led a balanced GW (20-6, 8-4 Atlantic 10) attack with 16 points. Isaiah Armwood and Joe McDonald each had 14 points. Kevin Larsen scored 11 points and had 13 rebiounds and Patricio Garino scored 10 points.
The Spiders (17-9, 7-4 Atlantic 10) host La Salle on Saturday at 4 p.m. The game is sold out.
