PHILADELPHIA – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team fell to Atlantic 10 leading Saint Joseph's Friday afternoon in Philadelphia, 10-5.
With the loss, Richmond falls to 18-23-1 on the season overall and to 9-10 in A-10 play. With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 28-10 on the year and to 14-4 in league action.
Sophomore Doug Kraeger led the Spiders on Friday, hitting a three-run double. Seniors Mike Small and Cory Moheit also had a RBI each in the loss.
After Saint Joseph's jumped out to an early, 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, the Spiders answered in a big way in the top of the second.
With one out, both Ryan Cook and Jansen Fraser singled to left field to put runners on the corners for Moheit. The senior cut the lead to 3-1 with a RBI single through the right side of the infield.
After a walk to Nick Poulos loaded the bases, Small was hit by a pitch, making the Hawks' lead just one, 3-2. Kraeger was next, clearing the bases with a three-run double to right-center field, giving the Spiders a 5-3 advantage.
Saint Joseph's came right back in the bottom of the inning, however, scoring four runs to take a lead the Hawks would not surrender.
The Richmond Spiders will continue their Atlantic 10 series with the Saint Joseph's Hawks on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
