Spiders Claim Four Titles At Charlotte Fall Invite

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Richmond men's tennis team closed the Charlotte Fall Invitational on Sunday with four flight championships, two from the singles courts and two from doubles.
The Spiders competed against opponents from Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Tennessee and Presbyterian on Friday and Sunday. Saturday was washed out due to inclement weather and the teams were forced to play an extended schedule on Sunday.
Brice Polender picked up victories over Jensen Martin of Charlotte (6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (5)) and Ben Kelley of Presbyterian (7-5, 6-3) claim the Flight 4 Singles title. Polender then teamed with his teammate Caleb Troy to pick up three more victories in Flight 3 Doubles to earn that title as well. The duo beat teams from Charlotte (7-6 (11)), Presbyterian (6-2) and Coastal Carolina (6-3) en route to the flight title.
In Flight 5 Singles it was James Aronson who rolled to the title beginning with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Fancis Pare of Charlotte. He then knocked off Stefan Jakubov of Coastal Carolina, 6-3, 6-3 to win the flight.
The Spider team of Canyon Teague and Jonathan Quenard then earned the Flight 2 Doubles title with wins over teams from Charlotte (6-3) and Presbyterian (6-3). The duo dropped just one match to a team from Coastal Carolina (6-7 (4)).
Outside of those titles, Alexandre Felisa collected three wins between the singles and doubles courts. Quenard and Stathi Kyriakides each won twice on the singles court while Teague and Caleb Troy won once.
Richmond will head to the Atlantic Regionals next weekend before closing out the fall slate with a trip to Wilmington, N.C. for the UNC-Wilmington Fall Invite Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
