Davidson Edges Richmond In Tight Overtime Game, 1-0
10/17/2015 | Field Hockey
DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson won a tight 1-0 field hockey match in a battle of the top A-10 teams on Friday night.
Richmond (7-7, 4-1) and Davidson (8-7, 5-1) were razor thin in every statistical category as the Wildcats held a 10-9 edge in shots, and Richmond had an 8-6 edge in penalty corners.
After a scoreless regulation, Davidson's Anne Federico scored the game-winner on a penalty corner just two minutes into overtime.
"Davidson tested us with a very aggressive, big ball playing style that applied a lot of unpredictable pressure," head coach Gina Lucido said. "The entire team made many position adjustments on the night and elevated to a new level of team chemistry against a hungry Davidson squad. The Spiders must take accountability in converting off our penalty corner opportunities. We will continue to pursue the top seed in the conference next weekend."
UR's Taylor Deitrick and Kasey Gilbride led the team with three shots each, one on goal. Emily Braunewell made five saves in goal for the Spiders.
Richmond returns to action on Sunday at noon at Appalachian State.
