Rooney Goal Ties, But UR Drops 2-1 Game at SLU

Richmond junior Hunter Rooney (Littleton, Colorado) scored her first career goal in the 10th minute to tie the game, but a late goal from Saint Louis was the difference in a 2-1 Billikens win over the Spiders Thursday night at Hermann Stadium in Atlantic 10 Conference women's soccer action.
SLU improved to 8-4 overall, 2-1 in league games, while the Spiders are 3-7-1 overall, 1-1-1 in league games.
The Billikens got on the board in the ninth minute when Livi Logan-Wood scored her first season goal after the ball got loose on a rebound from a shot by Jackie Tondl, who got the assist.
It was 66 seconds later when Rooney sent in a goal across the front of the box from Lexi Prillaman (Magnolia, Delaware) to the right side of the top of the box to tie the game at one.
The contest stayed tie to the half, at which point the Billikens led 8-6 in shots taken.
The second half stay tied with the teams getting quality chances on goal, but the Billikens scored on a similar goal in the 62nd minute on a Danielle Tolmais goal right in front after a couple of saves in front of the net. A save on a shot on goal by Kirsten Clemens resulted in the ball at the feet of Tolmais for the game-winner.
SLU ended with a 12-8 shots advantage.
Richmond sophomore Katie Brennan (Fairfield, Connecticut) took the loss for Richmond (2-5-1) and Hanna Benben earned the victory (7-3).
Richmond will head to Rhode Island for a Sunday contest, beginning at 2 p.m.
