Morman Named Preseason Third-Team All-American

Following his Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year award, graduate student Michael Morman (Rockford, Illinois) has been named a Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Preseason Third-Team All-American this week.
Morman batted .389 last year after transferring from Valparaiso to follow his recruited coach, UR head coach Tracy Woodson. Morman led the league in batting average and with 88 hits, 25 doubles and 56 runs batted in, while finishing second with 51 runs scored. His doubles total was sixth in the NCAA, while finishing 14th in batting average and 20th in total hits nationally. His 25 doubles were fourth most for a single season for a Spider in school history. In Atlantic 10 games, his average rose to .465 with 14 doubles, three homers and 28 RBI.
“We're excited for Michael to get this honor, especially after the season he had with us last year,” said Woodson. “After our Cuba trip, I am encouraged by how well we played and what our prospects are for this upcoming year and Michael is a big part of that.”
Following his season, Morman was selected as a Second-Team All-American by Louisville Slugger and Third-Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings. He also earned First-Team ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region, VaSID Player of the Year, First-Team All-Atlantic 10, First-Team VaSID All-State.
After a 3-1 trip to Cuba, playing Cuban pro teams of various levels, the Spiders begin the 2016 season in earnest at a tournament at UNC Wilmington, beginning Friday, February 19 with a game against St. John's at noon.
