Twice a month, we'll visit with a different Spider student-athlete in the Spider Spotlight.
Meet Melissa…
Career aspirations: After graduation, I'll be working full time at Citigroup in New York with their Equity Capital Markets divison.
Three words to describe yourself: Hungry, Dedicated, Thoughtful.
Best or most memorable moment as a member of your Spider program (doesn't have to be on the field/court): Winning A-10s my freshman year. Specifically storming the court with the team after Elizabeth Sims won the deciding point against UMass.
The best nickname on the team: Gaby Rosales: GabsGotAbs, Baby Rosales.
Strengths: My work ethic - I'm going to give all I got in whatever I do.
Toughest opponents: VCU.
Working to improve: My driving skill, specifically parallel parking.
Best sports memory: Winning A-10s and competing in the NCAA Tournament my freshman year.
Favorite meal: Chipotle never fails.
Favorite ice cream: Oreo or cookie dough ice cream :)
On your playlist: I have a little of every genre, except screamo.
Most embarrassing thing on your playlist: Jonas Brothers - S.O.S.
If you have one wish: To try every single restaurant in RVA.
What most people don't know about you: I was born and raised in Indonesia for 14 years.
If you could go on any game show: I would love to be one of the food judges in any of the cooking game shows on Food Network.
Hidden talent: My tongue can easily reach my nose!
Dream car: I've always thought highly of Jeeps. They drive so well in the snow!
If you could travel anywhere in the world: An exotic island.
Favorite class: Being part of the Sophomore Scholar in Residence program on campus called Science in Context - this was my favorite academic experience because our program was given the opportunity to spend one week in Vienna, Austria over Thanksgiving Break.
Pets: Currently none. My family used to have a dog named Roxy and a bird that we did not name.
Hero: Hands down, my parents. I can't give them enough credit. My mom and dad were so selfless and sacrificed in unconventional ways for me to pursue tennis and education in the U.S. They are the perfect example of unconditional support, and I am incredibly grateful for that.
Favorite childhood TV show: Captain Tsubasa.
If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive: Roger Federer.
If you could have any superpower: Time travel to relive meaningful moments.
