ALLENDALE, S.C. – The University of Richmond Spiders defeated the Holy Cross Crusaders, 4-1, in game two of Saturday's doubleheader to win the three-game series.

With the victory, Richmond wins the three-game series with the Crusaders and moves its overall record to 2-3 on the season. Holy Cross falls to 1-5 on the year. Due to snow, the three-game set was moved to the campus of the University of South Carolina-Salkehatchie in Allendale, S.C.

RHP Robbie Baker (1-0) was terrific for the Spiders on Saturday afternoon, pitching 5.1 shutout innings to earn the win. Baker allowed just four hits while striking out four.

Out of the bullpen, LHP Dylan Stoops pitched a scoreless inning, while RHP Ray Harron tossed a perfect 0.2 innings. RHP Joey Vecchione pitched a scoreless ninth inning, striking out two to earn his first collegiate save.

Offensively, the Spiders were led by 3B Matt Dacey and C Aaron Newman, who each had a RBI double for the Spiders. OF Michael Morman had a pair of hits and scored a run, while Jansen Fraser went 1-for-4 with a RBI.

After back-to-back singles from Morman and SS Tyler Beckwith to lead off the game, Dacey ripped a RBI double down the right-field line to get the Spiders on the board. Two batters later, OF Jansen Fraser drove in a run with a RBI groundout to push the UR lead to 2-0.

After a balk plated another run for the Spiders, Newman capped the four-run first inning for Richmond with a RBI double down the left-field line, scoring DH Kurtis Brown all the way from first base. After one inning, UR led Holy Cross, 4-0.

The four runs would be all the offense the Spiders would need, as strong defense and great pitching held the lead for the remainder of the game.

The Richmond Spiders baseball team will be back in action on Wednesday, February 25 when the team will play host to the Norfolk State Spartans. First pitch at Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights, Va. is scheduled for 7 p.m.
