Women's Lacrosse Upended At Longwood 5-4

Richmond women's lacrosse peppered the goal with shots, but came up short by one goal, dropping a mid-week non-conference game at Longwood Wednesday night 5-4 at the Longwood Athletics Complex.
The Spiders put together 23 shots to just 12 by Longwood, but goalie Christian Acker put together 15 saves to give the Lancers (1-3) their first win of the season.
Richmond drops to 1-3 on the year, despite leading 3-2 at the half. Richmond was out to a 2-0 lead after goals from senior Bailey Zerr (Denver, Colorado) and sophomore Emily Castle (Annapolis, Maryland) just 10 minutes into the game.
Longwood got its first goal past the midway point of the opening period before the Spiders stretched the lead back our to two on a Charlett Stevenson (Darien, Connecticut) with 13 minutes left in the half.
The Lancers pulled it back to one goal with the last goal of the half with 8:29 left in the half.
Richmond scored its final goal less than five minutes into the second period by senior Anna Jeszeck (Cortlandt Manor, New York) and Longwood closed the afternoon with three goals, including the game-winner from Sarah Butler with 7:39 remaining. It was her second-straight goal in the game. She was the only multi-goal scorer in the game. The Spiders got two more shots, both saved by Acker to preserve the win.
The Spiders got assists from Zerr and Catherine McTiernan (Garden City, New York).
Goalie Emily Boyce (Middletown, Maryland) took the loss (1-3) for Richmond. She made four saves in the contest.
The Spiders will remain on the road in-state for its next contest Saturday, at Liberty, with the opening draw scheduled for 1 p.m.
