Richmond senior Emily Doyle and freshman Kim Egizi have been awarded the Atlantic 10 Conference's Women's Lacrosse Player and Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. The Spiders won both of their weekend games to open the A-10 season. Richmond is 5-6 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Doyle was a major factor in the home wins over St. Bonaventure and Saint Joseph's over the weekend. In Richmond's 19-9 win over the Bonnies on Friday, Doyle had game highs of five goals and six assists to tie the Richmond school record with 11 points. In the Sunday 13-6 win over Saint Joseph's, Doyle scored three goals and added an assist in the victory. Doyle's seven assists for the weekend put her into a tie with Mandy Friend (2006-09) atop the program's all-time career assist list with 93. Doyle leads Richmond with 21 goals and 21 assists.
Egizi posted back-to-back games with four or more points to assist Richmond to the 2-0 league start. Against St. Bonaventure, Egizi scored two goals and dished out a pair of assists, also winning three draws and picking up three ground balls. Versus Saint Joseph's, Egizi had a game and career high four assists, adding a goal for the 2-0 league start. She also won one draw and caused a turnover. Egizi is UR's fourth-leading scorer, with 12 goals and nine assists.
Egizi has once before earned Rookie of the Week, on March 9, but this is Doyle's first turn as Player of the Week this season.
Richmond will host Davidson in its lone game at Robins Stadium this Saturday, starting at 5 p.m.
