Spider Baseball Hosts Sacred Heart This Weekend

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team will host the Sacred Heart Pioneers for a three-game series this weekend at Pitt Field.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 p.m. Sunday's finale is slated for 12 p.m. Live stats and live video for all three games will be available on RichmondSpiders.com.
Scouting the Spiders
The University of Richmond Spiders enter this weekend having won 11 of their last 13 games, running its overall record on the season to 17-9. Earlier this week, the Spiders had their eight-game winning streak snapped against Duke.
The Richmond offense has been one of the most powerful in the nation so far this season. The Spiders rank third in the nation in scoring (8.1), fourth in home runs per game (1.19), 10th in slugging percentage (.467), 15th in total home runs (31) and 15th in doubles per game.
Individually, freshman OF Kyle Adams leads the team with a .387 batting average, while OF Michael Morman has a team-best 29 RBI. 3B Matt Dacey leads the Atlantic 10 with eight home runs and the Spiders with 10 doubles on the year.
Not to be outdone, the pitching staff has been terrific for Richmond this season, posting a team ERA of 3.82. RHP Ryan Cook (4-1) has been outstanding at the top of the rotations, registering an ERA of 2.81 while striking out 32 batters in 41.2 innings pitched. Out of the bullpen, RHP Ray Harron leads the team with three saves.
Scouting the Pioneers
Prior to heading to Richmond on Saturday, the Sacred Heart Pioneers will face the Delaware Blue Hens on Friday afternoon. Sacred Heart takes an overall record of 6-16-1 in to Friday's game at UD.
Before the season, Sacred Heart was picked to finish second in the NEC, behind only Bryant. Last year, Sacred Heart posted an overall record of 29-28 and finished third in the NEC.
On Deck
The Richmond Spiders will play a pair of midweek games on Tuesday and Wednesday. UR will host James Madison at Pitt Field on Tuesday at 3 p.m. before traveling to VMI on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game.
