Spider Baseball Hosts Rhode Island This Weekend

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team will play host to Atlantic 10 rival Rhode Island this weekend at Pitt Field.
The three-game series gets underway on Friday at 3 p.m. Saturday's game is slated for a 1 p.m. start, with the finale scheduled for 12 p.m. on Sunday. Live stats and live video for all three games can be found on RichmondSpiders.com.
Scouting the Spiders
The University of Richmond Spiders enter the weekend with an overall record of 19-11, having defeated VMI on the road this past Wednesday.
In A-10 play, the Spiders sit atop the league with a record of 8-1, having won their last six conference games, sweeping both Fordham and St. Bonaventure. Richmond's 8-1 start in the A-10 is the best since 2002, when the Spiders started conference play at 12-0. That team went on to the NCAA Super Regional and posted a program-record 53 wins.
The Spider offense has been potent this season, as the team is hitting .290 on the year with 66 doubles, 33 home runs and 214 RBI. Freshman Kyle Adams leads the team with a .390 batting average, while OF Michael Morman has driven in a team-high 32 runs to go with 10 doubles. 3B Matt Dacey leads the A-10 with nine homers on the season so far.
On the mound, RHP Ryan Cook (5-1) has been terrific for the Spiders, posting an ERA of 2.72 with 38 strikeouts in 49.2 innings pitched. Out of the bullpen, RHP Ray Harron has recorded a team-best four saves on the season. As a team, Richmond has posted an ERA of 3.98 with 236 strikeouts in 267 innings.
Scouting the Rams
The Rhode Island Rams come to Richmond with an overall record of 13-13-1 on the season but a 6-3 mark in Atlantic 10 play, putting the Rams in a tie for third place in the conference.
Offensively, Rhode Island is hitting .263 as a team with 45 doubles, nine home runs and 122 RBI. On the mound, the Rams have recorded a team ERA of 4.17 with 189 strikeouts in 231 innings pitched.
In conference play this season, Rhode Island lost two of three at Saint Louis before winning two of three against Davidson at home. This past weekend, the Rams swept all three games at home against St. Joseph's.
