Rams' Ninth Inning Rally Thwarts Spiders, 3-0

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team dropped a pitcher's duel to the Rhode Island Rams on Saturday afternoon at Pitt Field, 3-0.
With the loss, Richmond falls to 19-13 on the season overall and to 8-3 in Atlantic 10 play. With the victory, Rhode Island improves to 15-13-1 on the year and to 8-3 in league action.
Freshman RHP Brendan McGuigan (2-2) suffered his second-straight hard-luck loss for the Spiders. The rookie pitched a career-high 8.2 innings, allowing the first runs of the game in the top of the ninth. McGuigan allowed three runs, two earned, while striking out seven.
Offensively, OF Tanner Stanley had the team's lone hit of the game, a single in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Richmond Spiders will conclude their three-game, Atlantic 10 series with Rhode Island on Sunday at Pitt Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
