Richmond Baseball Drops Road Game At La Salle
04/25/2015 | Baseball
PHILADELPHIA – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team fell to the La Salle Explorers, 13-4, on Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia.
With the loss, Richmond drops to 21-16 on the season overall and to 10-4 in Atlantic 10 conference play. With the victory, La Salle improves to 19-20-1 on the year and to 7-7 in league action.
3B Matt Dacey was terrific for the Spiders on Saturday, batting 4-for-5 with two home runs, a triple, four RBI and three runs scored. OF Michael Morman went 1-for-4 with a double and two run scored, while DH Kyle Adams had a pair of hits and a RBI in the loss.
In the top of the first inning, Dacey was at it again for the Spiders. The junior crushed a solo shot over the right-field fence – his Atlantic 10-leading 11th of the season – to give Richmond a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the frame, the Explorers took advantage of a Spider error, plating a pair of two unearned runs to take a 2-1 lead.
One inning later, Richmond battled back to tie the game at 2-2. With one out, Morman hit his 15th double of the season to get in to scoring position. Dacey followed, singling through the right side of the infield, scoring Morman easily to tie the game at 2-2.
La Salle answered back in a big way, scoring one in the fourth inning and three runs in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead.
Two innings later, Richmond cut the Explorers' lead in half with a pair of runs. After a one-out walk to Morman, Dacey lined a RBI triple to center field. Two batters later, Adams singled up the middle, plating Dacey to trim the La Salle lead to 6-4.
The Explorers exploded for seven runs over the course of the next two innings, however, taking a 13-4 lead to the ninth inning.
In the ninth, Dacey crushed his second homer of the game over the fence in right field, cutting the lead to 13-5. Dacey's 12th homer of the season matched his total from last year when he led the A-10 in home runs. The multi-homer game is the second of his career.
The Richmond rally ended there, as the Spiders fell to La Salle on the road, 13-5.
The Richmond Spiders baseball team will conclude its three-game series at La Salle on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
