Richmond Rally Falls Short At La Salle

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team staged a ninth-inning rally, but fell short at La Salle on Sunday afternoon, 8-6.
With the loss, Richmond falls to 21-17 on the season overall and to 10-5 in Atlantic 10 conference play. With the victory, La Salle improves to 20-20-1 on the year and to 8-7 in league action.
OF Tanner Stanley led the way offensively for Richmond, batting 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. Jansen Fraser had a three-run double in the ninth inning, while OF Michael Morman, 3B Matt Dacey and DH Kyle Adams all had two hits on the day.
Out of the bullpen, RHP Ray Harron worked 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, while RHP Keenan Bartlett worked the eighth inning, allowing just one hit.
In the top of the first inning, Stanley gave the Spiders a 2-0 lead with a home run deep over the fence in right field.
La Salle scored the game's next eight runs, however, plating three runs in the first and five runs in the bottom of the fifth.
In the top of the ninth inning, Richmond staged a two-out rally. With runners at first and second base, Stanley cut the lead to 8-3 with a RBI single to center field.
Two batters later the bases were loaded for the pinch hitter Fraser. The junior came through for the Spiders, lining a double to right field, clearing the bases to cut the La Salle lead to 8-6.
The rally ended there, however, as Richmond fell at La Salle, 8-6.
The Richmond Spiders baseball team will be back in action on Friday, when the team heads north to face Atlantic 10 rival Massachusetts. The three-game series gets underway on Friday, with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
