04/06/2015 | Women's Lacrosse
Richmond freshman Kim Egizi (Westwood, Massachusetts) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week, the league announced today. It is her third such award of the season.
Egizi scored the game-tying shorthanded goal with 98 seconds in regulation and then assisted on the game-winner in overtime as Richmond defeated Davidson 6-5 in the extra period in its lone game of the week. Egizi scored three goals and the assist to lead all players with four points in the defensive battle. Egizi's other goals were scored in the first two minutes of the first half and with 1:12 left in the half to tie the score going into the break. Her goals either gave Richmond the lead or tied the game. For the season, Egizi is second on the team with 25 points and is the second player to reach double-digit assists this season. Her 15 goals have come on just 27 shots. Her .889 shots on goal percentage and .556 goal-scoring percentage are both tops on the team, while her 17 ground balls are third-most for the Spiders this year.
Richmond is 6-6 overall on the season. In Saturday's win, senior Emily Doyle (Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey) recorded two assists and became Richmond's all-time career leader in that category. She now stands with 95 for her time at UR. Davidson committed 17 turnovers, with the Spiders causing 12, their second-highest total of the season. Junior Emily Newman (New Albany, Ohio) and senior Erin Geoghan (Highland, Maryland) had three caused turnovers each in the win, with Newman recording a game-high five ground balls, one off the season high for a game this season for UR.
This is Egizi's third Rookie of the Week selection this season, while Doyle has been named Player of the Week one time by the league office.
The Spiders will play their first two A-10 road games this weekend, at George Washington Friday and at George Mason Sunday.
