Richmond Earns Top Football APR Score In Virginia
05/27/2015 | Football, Academic Services
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders football team earned the top Academic Progress Rate (APR) score amongst all football teams in Virginia.
Richmond earned top honors in the Commonwealth with an APR score of 977, tying with Virginia Tech. William & Mary placed third with a score of 970, while Virginia was fourth with a score of 967. In the CAA, Richmond's score of 977 was third best in the conference, behind only Elon (984) and New Hampshire (980).
“Really excited about our APR score and where we are in the state and in the conference,” head coach Danny Rocco said. “We've really prided ourselves, for quite some time, in our ability to excel both academically and athletically. Our APR score really validates the reality that we compete and achieve at the highest levels, both on the field and in the classroom.”
Five other University of Richmond teams were honored last week as ranking in the top-10 in the nation in their respective sports in APR. Richmond's men's cross country, men's golf, women's outdoor track and field, women's soccer and women's swimming & diving were all recognized by the NCAA for their academic success.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of every student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation, and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
The Richmond Spiders football team will open the 2015 season on the road in College Park, Md. against Big Ten foe Maryland on September 5.
