WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Richmond junior Charlett Stevenson (Darien, Connecticut) scored two goals and the Spiders found the net on all three free position attempts, but Massachusetts was able to outscore the Spiders 3-1 in the second half and take an 8-4 win in the Championship of the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament Sunday afternoon at the George Washington Mt. Vernon campus.
The Spiders held the Minutewomen to their third-lowest goal total of the season, and senior goalie Emily Boyce (Middletown, Maryland), playing in her final career game, came up with five saves.
Senior Emily Doyle (Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey) was credited with an assist on a goal by junior Emily Newman (New Albany, Ohio) in the first half. Doyle finishes her career with 104 assists, the most for a career at UR.
The Spiders finish the season with a 10-9 overall record, finishing with 10 or more wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2006 and 2007.
Massachusetts takes the A-10's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. UMass is now 18-1 overall.
Richmond placed four on the All-Tournament Team. Stevenson, Newman, junior Brooke Wilson (Ijamsville, Maryland) and senior Anna Jeszeck (Cortlandt Manor, New York) earned the honor to conclude their seasons.
