Richmond Blasts Dayton, 13-5, At Pitt Field

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team defeated the Dayton Flyers, 13-5, at Pitt Field on Friday afternoon.
With the victory, Richmond improves to 24-20 on the season overall and in to a tie for first place in the Atlantic 10 with a conference mark of 12-7. With the loss, Dayton falls to 14-34 on the year and to 3-16 in league action.
OF Michael Morman was unstoppable at the plate on Friday for the Spiders, going 4-for-4 on the day with four RBI, two doubles and four runs scored. Freshman Kyle Adams went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI, while Tanner Stanley had a two-run single for UR.
On the mound, RHP Ryan Cook (7-2) pitched five innings to earn the victory for Richmond. The senior allowed three runs on four hits while striking out four. RHP James Lively threw two scoreless innings of relief, while freshman RHP Brendan McGuigan allowed just one run in two innings of work, striking out four.
Trailing Dayton 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Spiders scored 10 of the game's next 11 runs to blow it wide open.
In the fifth, Morman tied the game at 4-4 with a double to center field. Matt Dacey followed, plating the go-ahead run with a RBI infield single to second base.
Richmond plated four runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to take complete command of the game. In the seventh, Adams had a two-run double for the Spiders, while C Aaron Newman had a RBI single to center to push the lead to 9-5.
After Dayton scored a run in the top of the eighth, UR responded with four more runs in the bottom half. Morman had a two-run double for the Spiders, while Dacey and 1B Kurtis Brown each tallied a RBI to make the Richmond advantage, 13-5.
Richmond's offense was prolific on Friday with two outs, batting 6-for-12 (.500) for the game. The Spiders were also terrific with men on base, going 9-for-17 (.529) to earn the conference win.
The Richmond Spiders will continue their three-game, Atlantic 10 series with Dayton at Pitt Field on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
Saturday's game will be Senior Day for the Spiders, as the team will honor its seven graduating seniors. Senior Day festivities will begin at Pitt Field at 12:30 p.m.
