Three Spiders Earn First-Team All-Region Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three University of Richmond Spiders baseball players were named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region First Team on Wednesday.
OF Michael Morman, 3B Matt Dacey and RHP Ryan Cook all earned the first-team accolades, marking the first time since 2012 that Richmond had at least three student-athletes make the All-Region East team.
“We are excited to have three of our players selected for the All-East Region First-Team,” head coach Tracy Woodson said. “With the three selections, I think coaches around the region recognize the type of student-athlete we have here at Richmond. It's one thing to be honored by organizations, but when the accolades come from other coaches, it means even more.”
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee. All-Region first-team selections are eligible for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors.
For Morman, the honors just continue to roll in after a tremendous season that saw him earn Second-Team All-American honors from Louisville Slugger after being named Atlantic 10 Player of the Year. Morman was also named First-Team All-Atlantic 10.
After transferring from Valparaiso, Morman made an immediate impact with the Spiders. Morman led the Atlantic 10 in batting average (.389), hits (88), RBI (56), doubles (25) and total bases (138). Morman's batting average of .389 was highest for any Spider since 2002 and his 25 doubles on the year rank fourth all-time in school history.
Also earning first-team all-conference honors was Dacey, who became just the third player in league history to lead the A-10 in home runs in back-to-back seasons. After hitting 12 homers a season ago, Dacey clubbed 17 in 2015, while batting .313 on the season. Dacey also led the A-10 in runs scored (56), while finishing second in total bases (129), fourth in RBI (52), third in walks (35) and second in slugging percentage (.652).
A Second-Team All-Atlantic 10 selection, Cook went 8-2 on the year, tying for second place in the league in wins. Cook's 78 strikeouts were the fourth-most in the conference, while the Virginia Beach, Va. native also finished fourth in the A-10 in opponent batting average (.217), fourth in ERA (2.80) and 10th in innings pitched (86.2).
