UR Alum John Moreau Inducted Into New England Hall of Fame

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond alum John Moreau was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Worcester, Mass., earlier this month.
A basketball titan in the city of Richmond, Moreau's career in the sport spans five decades starting at Central High School in Charlotte, N.C., and continuing on the freshman basketball team at the University of Richmond.
“This is a great honor for an exceptional representative of the University of Richmond and our community at large,” Director of Athletics Keith Gill said. “John has been an avid supporter of Richmond basketball and Spider athletics throughout his esteemed career, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to him and his family.”
After graduating as a Spider, he began officiating at the high school level, working his way up into college, including 25 years in the ACC. He has worked numerous national tournaments, including the NCAA and NIT tournaments. In 1987, he was presented the ACC Commissioner's Award.
Moreau has also spent many years working with the Special Olympics. He has officiated games for the Special Olympics for over 24 years, including three national games and six world games, mentoring countless athletes, coaches and officials along the way.
He retired from the Collegiate School in Richmond where he served as a teacher, coach, Director of Development and Athletic Director throughout his tenure.
Moreau was inducted into the Collegiate Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.
