Spiders Drop 3-1 Decision at JMU
10/14/2016 | Field Hockey
HARRISONBURG, Va. – The rivalry between Richmond and JMU is competitive across all sports. Friday's field hockey match was no different.
Despite a hard fought effort, the Spiders (6-7, 4-2 A10) fell to the Dukes, 3-1.
Less than 10 minutes into the game, JMU (10-3) jumped out to a 1-0 lead behind a goal from Ashley Gippe. Kasey Gilbride and Jessica Bishop fired off shots in the circle looking for the equalizer, but the Dukes defense turned away both opportunities.
Minutes later, freshman Elise Zwicklbauer tallied her first career goal, tying the game at 1-1.
In the second half, JMU grabbed a 2-1 lead off a penalty corner. The Dukes tacked on one more in the waning minutes of the game to secure their 3-1 victory.
Richmond returns to action on Tuesday, October 18 as the Spiders play host to perennial power Virginia at Crenshaw Field. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m. and will be available on SpiderTV.
