QUICK HITS ABOUT THE PATRIOT INVITATIONAL
The Patriot Invitational is set to feature teams from American, Drexel, Florida Atlantic, George Mason, Richmond, Seton Hall, Shippensburg, UMBC and UNCW
THE LAST TIME OUT
The Spiders split the tri-meet with Queens and Gardner-Webb two weeks ago, and notched 18 top-five performances. Junior Erin Barry logged her fastest times of the season in both the 100 and 200 breast stroke events. Freshman Virginia Marsh made her debut swimming the leadoff leg of the 400 relay, registering the fastest time in the 100 free in the Atlantic 10 up to this point. In the 400 IM, sophomore Nicole Piercy recorded the fastest time by a Spider this season in the event.
SPIDERS WELL REPRESENTED AT U.S. OLYMPIC TRIALS
At the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha back in June, the Spiders were well represented. Junior Erin Barry, freshman Hannah Gouger and alum Lauren Hines all competed against the sports elite. This was the fourth consecutive Olympic Trials that Richmond was represented in the water, and it was the second time for Hines. Both Hines and Gouger competed in the 100m backstroke while Barry competed in the 200m breaststroke. Read Hines' journey back to the Olympic Trials here.
THE NEWCOMERS
Even with returning a core group from the 2016 A-10 Championship team, the Spiders welcomed a total of six new freshmen, including two divers. Also this week, head coach Matt Barany announced the addition of Staci Schrecognost to his staff. Schrecognost joins the Spiders from Edinboro University where she was a standout swimmer earning All-American honors.
ON DECK
Richmond will not be back in action until December 3 when the Spiders travel to George Washington for a dual meet.
