Spiders Drop 5-2 Road Decision To UNCG
02/24/2016 | Women's Tennis
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Winners of three straight, the University of Richmond women's tennis team took momentum into their first outdoor match on Saturday on the campus of UNC Greensboro.
The Spiders got singles victories from sophomore Gaby Rosales and freshman Ana Ramirez, but it wasn't enough as Richmond fell on the road, 5-2, to the Spartans of UNCG.
“I thought we played alright for our first outdoor match,” Head Coach Mark Wesselink said. “We need to get a little tougher physically and mentally. I think that will happen as we get more matches under our belts and hopefully get everyone back to full strength health-wise.”
The Spiders battled hard on the doubles courts with Brittany Boys and Katya Salas teaming up to win at the second doubles position, but the Spartans came away victorious in the other two doubles matches to grab a 1-0 lead.
Rosales found victory at the second spot in the singles lineup, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, while Ramirez picked up a hard-fought three set win at the fifth spot in the order.
The Spiders are back in action on Thursday when they travel to East Carolina. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m.
