UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman Ana Ramirez appears to like the sunshine of Florida.
Ramirez went a perfect 3-0 in singles action and added two more wins on the doubles court to help lead the University of Richmond women's tennis team to a perfect 3-0 week during their spring break trip to the Sunshine State.
For her outstanding play, Ramirez was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the second weekly honor for a Spider this spring, following Anna Abadias Morales' Player of the Week honor last month.
Ramirez started her week off with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Bowling Green's Emily Witt. That went along with her win in doubles action with teammate Gaby Rosales to secure the doubles point for the Spiders in a 6-1 win over Bowling Green.
Two days later, she picked up another straight set singles win in Richmond's hard-fought 4-3 win over Stetson.
The week was rounded out with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Appalachian State's Heidi Swope and another win in doubles action to highlight Richmond's 5-2 win over the Mountaineers.
Richmond returns to action on Friday, March 25 when they travel to the nation's capital to take on George Washington in an Atlantic 10 matchup. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
