UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team dropped a 14-2 decision to Davidson on Saturday afternoon, snapping a three-game winning streak.
Davidson (19-16, 7-4 A-10) got things started early with a three-run first inning. The Wildcats loaded the bases and pushed across three runs, capped by a single up the middle from Sam Foy.
The Spiders got on the board in the second when Aaron Newman laced a ball to the left field corner, driving in Kurtis Brown, who led off the inning with a single. Richmond cut the 'Cats lead to one, 3-2, behind D.J. Lee's sacrifice fly, allowing Daniel Brumbaugh to cross the dish.
Davidson responded by plating four runs in the next two innings to jump out to a 7-2 lead.
The Spiders (18-15, 5-6) looked to cut the deficit, but Davidson continued to silence any attempt.
Behind a two-run double, the 'Cats extended their lead, 9-2 in the eighth. Davidson tacked on four in the top of the ninth to take a 14-2 lead, which evened the series at 1-1.
Tomorrow's rubber match is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. first pitch and will be available from SpiderTV on the Atlantic 10 Network.
