Richmond Men's Golf In First Place After First Round

ORLANDO - The Richmond men's golf team sits in a tie for first place after the conclusion of the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Championship at Grand Cypress in Orlando, Fla.
The Spiders opened the tournament with the first playing group and set what became the leading pace. UR combined for a team score of 294 (+6) to tie with Dayton through 18 holes.
Richmond sophomore and reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Matthew Lowe paced the squad with a round of 71 (-1), tying for first overall in the tournament. He knocked in four birdies, including three on the back nine, to post his team-best 10th under-par round this season.
Senior David Germann also put together four birdies, but shot a 73 (+1) in his first round. He went one-under on the front nine, but a double bogey on the 11th hole pushed to him to two-over on the back nine. Germann is tied for sixth overall.
Junior Keegan Hoff was even through nine holes but finished two-over on the back nine to register a card of 74 (+2). He is tied for 14th overall.
Freshman Ben Wanichek recovered from a slow start by shooting two-under on the back nine with three birdies to finish at 76 (+4).
Senior John David Sanderson shot 90 (+18) on the day.
