Spiders Take Down Saint Joseph's, 4-0
04/03/2016 | Women's Tennis
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – It would've been easy for the University of Richmond women's tennis team to come out flat and lack energy after weather delayed their home match by nearly four hours.
However, the Spiders responded the exact opposite way, playing with energy and quickly taking a 4-0 win over Atlantic 10 foe Saint Joseph's, in a weather-shortened match that was played under a clinch match situation.
Richmond (10-6) has now won six of its past seven matches, including three straight at home.
“I'm happy with the way our girls fought through the delays to come out with the win,” Head Coach Mark Wesselink said. “We just have to keep focused on getting better every time we take the courts and I feel we've been doing a good job of that recently.”
Sophomore Gaby Rosales and junior Brittany Boys quickly got things started for the Spiders, each picking up straight set 6-2, 6-2 victories at the second and third spots in the lineup.
Freshman Ana Ramirez followed by taking down SJU's Alex Zachem, 6-4, 6-2 to bring the Spiders within one point of the clinch.
Katya Salas delivered the clinch with a 6-3, 6-3 straight set win over Anne Marie Devlin at the sixth spot in the lineup.
The Spiders return to action on Sunday when they host CAA power UNC Wilmington. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
