10/04/2017 | Men's Basketball
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond released tip-off times and television broadcast information for its men's basketball home schedule on Wednesday.
Â
The Spiders home game vs historic powerhouse Georgetown and new head coach Patrick Ewing will start at 6:00 PM on Saturday, November 25th. It will be the first game between the Spiders and the Hoyas since 1964 and the first in Richmond since 1961. Television information for the game will be announced shortly.
Â
Additionally, NBC Sports Washington, formerly Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, will show six Spiders home games to a regional audience.
Â
The schedule begins with the Spiders season-opening game vs Delaware on November 10th at 7:00 PM on NBC Sports Washington Plus. Richmond's home opener is presented by Carreras Jewelers. NBCS Washington will also broadcast the Spiders second home game on November 13th against Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks are reigning Ohio Valley Conference champions and coming off the first NCAA tournament appearance in school history. The noon tip time will allow over 2,000 Richmond-area elementary and middle-school students to attend as part of UR's Dream Big initiative.
Â
NBCS Washington will broadcast an additional four Spiders home games: November 29th vs Vermont (7:00 PM), December 9th vs James Madison (6:00 PM) , February 17th vs St. Louis (6:00 PM), and February 24th against Saint Joseph's (6:00 PM). University of Richmond's own SpiderTV will produce all games for NBC Sports Washington. Bob Black will handle play-by-play duties with analyst Greg Beckwith. The broadcasts will be produced and directed by Blake Ellett.
Â
As announced earlier, Richmond is currently slated to play five home games on national television. The Spiders national TV schedule starts with a December 30th game against Davidson on NBC Sports Network at 4:30 PM. NBCSN will also broadcast the Spiders A-10 home games against George Washington (January 13th at 4:30 PM), La Salle (January 20th at 2:30 PM), and George Mason (February 3rd at 4:30 PM). CBS Sports Network will show Richmond hosting VCU on February 7th at 9:00 PM as part of the Lumber Liquidators Capital City Classic. Â
Â
The Spiders average attendance of 6,317 at the Robins Center in 2016-17 ranked third among A-10 schools and third among all schools nationally with a total enrollment under 5,000 students, trailing only Providence and Butler. Over the last eight seasons, the Spiders have compiled a 101-30 (.771) record at the Robins Center, the second-most home wins of any A-10 team over that span (Dayton, 115-23).
Â
The 2017-18 Spiders return four of their top six scorers from a team that won 22 games and reached the NIT quarterfinals a year ago. Reigning A-10 Rookie of the Year De'Monte Buckingham leads a roster that features only two players in their final year of college eligibility, second-fewest in conference behind George Mason.
Â
A final broadcast schedule with additional televised games will be announced in the coming weeks.
